On 24 November 2016, the MoF issued a new Regulation No. 179/PMK.04/2016 (“PMK-179”) regarding Customs Registration. This regulation is effective 30 days after the issuance date.
The new regulation stipulates that the previous Customs ID Number, known as Nomor Identitas Kepabeanan (NIK), is now replaced by the Tax ID Number (Nomor Pokok Wajib Pajak – NPWP). The new regulation also stipulates the data integration between the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGCE) and the Directorate General of Tax (DGT), whereby the DGT can use Customs User data for tax purposes. Failure to submit an annual corporate income tax return (CITR) and/or Value Added Tax (VAT) returns will also lead to blocking of Access to the Customs Service by the DGCE.
